In a patent infringement matter, a global pharmaceutical company utilized BLD's managed review services in Cleveland under the leadership of BLD's Director of Discovery Operations. BLD worked closely with outside counsel to ensure that the review team was trained on the review protocol and that the documents were reviewed and produced on time and on budget.
The San Francisco and Palo Alto offices of an international law firm representing a global wireless communications company involved in a patent infringement litigation required an initial relevance review of over 1,000,000 pages in electronic format. BLD worked with lead and co-counsel to review and tag these documents, a process which was completed in two months involving 30 document review attorneys. BLD was then asked by lead and co-counsel to review and categorize over 500,000 pages produced by the opposing side as well as 500,000 pages produced by third parties. BLD also conducted an initial privilege review for lead counsel in response to opposing side's production requests and assisted lead and co-counsel with the collection of relevant documents from all three reviews in preparation for over 40 potential deponents. Finally, BLD assisted with locating relevant documents for preparation of a trial outline utilizing the CaseMap software application. This entire project was accomplished in five (5) months time.
BLD supplied a team of attorney reviewers that grew in size to 105 over the life of the review in an IP licensing case with antitrust issues at its core for a Fortune 500 tech company. Under the leadership of BLD's Senior Project Manager, first-tier review of over three million documents was achieved on-time with no overtime. BLD assumed increasing responsibility for review and production quality control providing a tremendous cost savings to BLD's corporate client.
Subsequent to first-tier review and production, BLD's Senior Project Manager identified top-performing BLD attorneys from the review team who were retained to do follow-on tasks for which they were especially suited. Under direction from outside counsel, our team performed privilege review, created privilege log, and did substantial fact research and evidentiary work in preparation for depositions, motion practice, and trial. Because BLD attorneys had developed such broad expertise in the stories the document set told, and because they were devoted solely to this project, they were uniquely capable of creating top-drawer work product faster and at a lower cost.
